Platform Functions Available Through Ivernsdale

This page describes the individual functions that make up the Ivernsdale service. Each function is explained in terms of what it does, how users interact with it, and what it contributes to the overall information-organisation process.

Core Capabilities

The Four Principal Functions of the Service

Ivernsdale is built around four interconnected functions, each addressing a distinct stage in the process of making information structured and reviewable.

Content Classification Engine

At the core of the service is a classification engine that processes submitted information and assigns it to the appropriate category within Ivernsdale's organisational framework. Classification is applied consistently and without manual intervention on the user's part. The engine works across a range of content types and applies the same categorisation rules to all items it receives, creating a uniform structure regardless of the variety of the input.

Structured Information Viewer

Once content has been classified, it is made available through the Structured Information Viewer — the primary interface through which users interact with organised material. The Viewer presents information in a layered hierarchy, from broad category summaries to detailed individual records. Users move between levels using a consistent navigation model, and the interface adjusts its layout to suit the type of content being displayed at each level.

Guided Navigation Workflow

For users reviewing information for the first time, or for those working within complex category structures, the Guided Navigation Workflow offers a step-by-step path through the service. The workflow identifies the user's starting category based on their access type and presents a suggested sequence of sections to review. It does not restrict access to other areas — it simply provides an ordered starting point for those who prefer a structured introduction to the information available to them.

Enquiry and Access Request Interface

The Enquiry and Access Request Interface provides a structured channel through which users can ask questions about the service, request access to specific information categories, or report issues with the classification of items they have encountered. Enquiries are received by the support team and addressed in the order in which they arrive. The interface is available through the Make an Enquiry page and does not require any additional tools or accounts beyond those associated with the service.

Step by Step

Walking Through the Review Process

Understanding how the functions work together helps users make the most of what Ivernsdale offers. The following steps describe the typical path through the service from initial access to completed review.

Confirm Your Access Type

Begin by confirming which access type applies to your use of the service. Your access type determines which information categories are available to you and which navigation path the Guided Workflow will suggest. If you are uncertain about your access type, contact the support team before proceeding.

Open the Structured Viewer

Once access is confirmed, open the Structured Information Viewer. The top level presents the categories available under your access type. Take note of the category headings before navigating deeper — this gives you a useful map of what the information structure contains.

Navigate to the Relevant Section

Select the category most relevant to your current review task. Use the breadcrumb navigation within the Viewer to track your position within the hierarchy. If the Guided Workflow is active, it will indicate suggested next steps; these can be followed or bypassed according to your preference.

Review Individual Records

At the lowest level of the hierarchy, you will find individual records or items. Each record is displayed with its classification metadata, which indicates the category and sub-category it belongs to, along with any relevant timestamps or reference identifiers associated with its submission.

Submit a Query if Needed

If a record is unclear, appears to be misclassified, or raises a question that the interface cannot resolve, use the Enquiry Interface to send a specific query to the support team. Include the record's reference identifier if one is visible. The support team will respond and may request additional detail to locate and address the issue.

Key Service Features

  • Consistent classification across all content types
  • Hierarchical navigation from category to individual record
  • Access permissions aligned to user type
  • Guided starting path for new users
  • Breadcrumb navigation within the Viewer
  • Classification metadata visible on each record
  • Support channel for queries and access requests
  • Defined range of accepted content formats
  • No requirement for specialist technical knowledge
What to Keep in Mind

Before You Begin Using the Service

These points are worth reviewing before submitting your first access request or beginning a review session within the Ivernsdale interface.

The service classifies content as submitted — it does not independently verify accuracy
Access to information categories depends on the access type associated with your account
Submissions that do not meet format requirements may be returned for correction
The Guided Workflow suggests a review path — it does not restrict navigation
Classification metadata is visible on each record to help you understand its position
The support team can be reached through the enquiry page for questions or concerns
The service does not source information from external systems independently
Changes to access type or category permissions require a formal enquiry submission

How the Functions Appear in Practice

The illustration alongside shows a schematic representation of the four function areas within the Ivernsdale interface. Each panel corresponds to one of the core capabilities described on this page: information review, classification management, guided navigation, and the enquiry channel.

The interface is designed to keep all four functions accessible without requiring users to move between entirely separate environments. Contextual links within each area allow users to move naturally between functions as their review progresses.
